Hey there awesome person,
Don't you hate when people say "Happy Friday" to you?
Definitely one of the top things I don't miss about working in an office.
Anyways, I've not been creating a lot of content lately as I've been having health issues that have resulted in way too many appointments where I'm getting poked with ouchie needles, zapped with electric shocks, and uncomfortable visits in MRI machines (I have a metal plate in my face over my right cheekbone and that's not pleasant when getting an MRI).
But I am gearing up to start a new case study with 5 sites new sites to see what the results are - and these sites are all gonna be 100% powered by AI content tools.
Wait - before I lose you here, this is not a 'watch me rank and bank with AI content' sort of case study. It's about finding out how to optimize for success based on efficiency and cost. At least that's the goal.
You see, I spent around a month testing all sorts of different AI writing tools to determine how long it takes for a tool to produce a first draft (13 minutes on average), which tool requires the most editing of that draft (Zimmwriter), which one results in the cheapest article (Cuppa), which one takes the longest to get setup for annew article (Zimmwriter), and which one creates the best affiliate buying guides (Koala - I know, I'm as shocked as you are and I still stand behind my earlier critical tweets of this tool).
I have to admit something here.
The reason I was doing all this in-depth testing was for a purely selfish reason - it started out as a personal interest for my own sites, but then an agency client asked if my team could produce AI-edited and optimized content at scale and I had to determine the costs and time involved before I could say yes. (Side note: You can learn more about that service here and if you're interested in using it for your sites, the pre-launch 10% off discount code is PRELAUNCH - valid through July 4th )
But as a site builder, I'm curious about what the best option is in terms of creating content for my sites that rank with no/minimal editing. But with the affiliate programs paying so freaking much in commissions, you can't really get an honest opinion on this. The guys at Authority Hacker did a podcast recently on comparing AI one-click article generators, but I feel like you need more than a handful of articles to really declare something the winner.
Sometimes, if you want an answer you gotta find it out on your own.
So....I'm going to create a total of 5 sites all in the same niche and all targeting the same keywords but with each site powered by different AI content tools.
I'm thinking somewhere between 100 and 250 articles on each site should be enough to run a proper case study. I'm hoping to keep costs down because the whole point of AI content is to not spend a fortune. With that in mind, I won't be testing Surfer's new AI content offering because it's just too expensive for what it is.
The purpose of this case study will be to determine what delivers the best results in terms of rankings and traffic. But I also want to be mindful of time involved per tool + cost per tool.
As you might expect, this case study will last over several months because it should take time for a new site to rank...and also because I want to see these sites go through an algo update or two.
I've already selected a niche - meditation/related relaxation topics. I picked this because I want to test both Amazon affiliate content and other affiliate content along with informational content. Once I get the keywords, and new domains picked out, I'll announce the official start of this case study on my YouTube channel and on the blog. Until then, hit reply if you've got any suggestions or random thoughts on this case study before I get started.
Stay awesome,
Shawna
P.S. FYI my Expert Picks for June should be up on the Odys marketplace in video format (a change from the blog write-ups!). You can also find them on my YouTube channel starting today. If you don't already have an account, get one now in case you wanna snap up one of my picks. (Don't forget that my affiliate link adds a cool $100 credit to your account!)
FYI: Some of the links in this email are affiliate links, but I only recommend stuff that I actually use/test.

Online Income Memo by Skipblast You'll notice some changes with the way this email looks. You'll also see the Skipblast website get a glow-up soon. Let me know how you feel about these changes. Pinterest vs Facebook for Traffic When it comes to finding traffic streams that...
As a marketer, I've always been interested in how "real" businesses do their marketing. Even when they're not in my niche. And one of the weirdest things that I've seen that works are those heart-shaped pizzas that appear this time every year. The reason I think it's weird that it works so well for pizza places is that you get less pizza when it's in that heart shape. Like, why do people buy those? It's a terrible deal. What's crazy is how you can market to people around seasonal topics. If...
A year ago, I was firmly in the "I hate AI content" camp and it wasn't until a few months into 2023 that I accepted that it was time for me to change my views. My undergrad degree is in English and Journalism, so it's easy to see why that was my initial view. Truthfully, I still don't love AI content. But it doesn't really matter how I feel about it. Because SEO and growing niche sites doesn't have shit to do with emotions or feelings. It's about being willing to adapt and pivot to what's...
